Awards, Publications, and Recognition
A number of my photos have been entered
in various photography contests. I was privileged to win first
place in 2002 in Door County Maritime Museum' s annual Juried
Photography Contest in the color category with a 4 min exposure
of the Sturgeon Bay North Pierhead Lighthouse. I've had photos
take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in various categories in Lighthouse
Digest's annual lighthouse photo contest over the years.. In 2000
I was very fortunate to have a photo win an Honorable Mention
in Popular Photography's Annual International Picture contest.
This was a particular honor form me since only 54 out of the more
than 60,000 photos entered in the contest were published in the
January, 2001 issue of Popular Photography. I've also had several
photographs published in the monthly photo contests of the various
major photography magazines and in a number of regional lighthouse
photography contests.
There have been
articles published on my lighthouse photography in Encore
magazine, published locally in my home town, Kalamazoo, Michigan
and in Lighthouse Legacy,
a magazine for collectors of lighthouse miniatures. I was honored
to have my images appear the February '03 and October '04 covers
of Lighthouse Digest,
and on the cover of the 2004 Lake
Michigan Circle Tour &Lighthouse Guide,
and the cover of the 2005 Great
Lakes Lighthouse Festival program. My lighthouse
photos have also appeared multiple times on the cover of the Lighthouse
Depot catalog. I've also had several photo stories published in
the Lighthouse Digest. One of my storm photos, "Restless
Lake," appeared on the cover of Great
Laker magazine along with my photo article
on Stormy Weather Photography in the Fall 2003 issue. Beginning
with the July-September 2004 issue of Great Laker, I
was invited to write a quarterly series on "Marine Photography,"
the first segment was titled, "Photographing at the Edges
of the Day," which can be accessed via the
link below. There are now fourteen published articles in the series,
with articles planned through the end of 2008. Links to all of
the published articles can be accessed from the button boxes at
the bottom of any of the articles- Click

became a regular contributor to Leading
Lights,
a lighthouse magazine published internationally in The Netherlands.
More recently, I have had a cover photo on the magazine Casino
Connection and provided the photographs for
a photo article on the lighthouses of the Jersey coast titled,
"Guiding Lights."
I have also been
fortunate to have had several lighthouse photogaphy exhibits in
Kalamazoo which led to the opening of my own gallery in Suite
217 Park Trades Center, 326 W. Kalamazoo Ave., Kalamazoo in June,
2005. My work is also exhibited in a number of galleries along
the Lake Michigan shore, including, Waterfront
Framing & Fine Art
in St. Joseph, Artworks
in South Haven, Castlepark
Gallery in Holland,
at MarineTech
in Grand Haven, and at the Corner
Store in Harbor
Beach on Lake Huron. This links provided will take you to pages
showing some of the work exhibited in and available from those
galleries.
A new exhibit will
be opening May 23rd, 2008 in the Dar Davis gallery of the Krasl
Art Center at 707 Lake Boulevard in St Joseph, Michigan, 49085.
The exhibit will run through July 20th, 2008. For directions
