The 20 foot stone lighthouse that now stands on Pond Island is the third lighthouse at this location and was built 34 years after the first lighthouse.  After the present stone tower was built in 1855, the lighthouse was equipped with a 5th order Fresnel lens.  The lighthouse was automated in 1963 and all buildings except for the lighthouse were razed.
