The storms season on the Great Lakes usually begins with occasional storms in October, followed by fierce storms during the month of November and into December until the lake freezes. It is perhaps fitting that this storm animation is posted on November 10th, the anniversary of the last voyage of the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975.
