Romer Shoal gallery is the last lighthouse ships sail past in the shipping channel as they leave New York harbor.  The lighthouse is visible from Coney Island from the tip of the Gateway National Recreation Area beyond the Sandy Hook lighthouse and very distantly from Mt. Mitchell Senic Overlook Park.
