Marshall Point lighthouse was built in 1857 to guide mariners into Port Clydes harbor or around the point into Muscongus Bay.  Jeremy D'Entremont's book, "The Lighthouse Handbook: New England" points out the interesting fact that the Marshall Point lighthouse had a brief appearance in the movie Forrest Gump...  You have to wonder why the director thought that using a Maine lighthouse in a movie set in Louisiana was a good idea?
