The Boon Island lighthouse is distant visible from Sohier Park, which sits just across a short span of water from the Cape Neddick or "Nubble" light.  The light from Boon Island is visible just above the horizon in the pre-dawn image of Nubble light below on the extreme right.

Several lights have been built on Boon Island following the 1710 wreck of British ship Nottingham Galley, the current granite tower built between 1852 and 1854.  The lighthouse was licensed by the USCG to the American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF) in 2000.
