~ Sunrise and sunset at Cape Lookout ~

Cape Lookout is one of North Carolina's barrier islands separated from the mainland by the waters of Core Sound near the town of Harker's Landing, a little north on the Atlantic coast from Morehead City. I've always thought sunrises and sunsets across the ocean or the waters of the Great Lakes were always the most beautiful. To take in the sunrise or sunset at Cape Lookout, unless you have your own boat and know the waters of Core Sound very very well, requires you to camp out on the island. The photos on this page were taken on one of my camping trips to the island in 1999.
