Defiant: This shot of the St Joe north pier lights was taken during a late May gale in 2003. Waves of 10 to 12 feet were common all day. In the late afternoon the skies cleared and here a wave of over 15 feet is sweeping past the inner light while another is breaking against the end of the pier. The title of the image seemed appropriate for these pier lights that withstand the onslaught decade after decade.
