Cruising southward toward the lower entry light the top two panoramic views are right as you leave the dock in Houghton. Along the way, "Jaws" was moored and a number of range lights are seen. The two to the right above are one pair of range lights, the rear (left) and front (right) .

As you reach the southern end of the portage, the lower entry light comes into view, situated astride a long pier that thrusts out into Keweenaw Bay. When we cruised past it at the beginning of August 2004 aboard the Keweenaw Star, the Fresnel lens still proudly shone in the lantern room, although I believe that the USCG has announced plans to remove the 4th order Fresnel lens and replace it with a functional, albeit much less interesting, 300 mm plastic optic.
