There are good views of Crossover Island from  River Ledge Road that runs parallel to NY Route 12about 2 miles east of Chippewa Bay.  While not a large island, you'll want to have both a telephoto zoom and potentially a long telephoto with you to photograph the island.  The shots on this page were shot with an 80-200 mm f/2.8 and 300 mm f/4 Nikkor lenses.

View of Crossover Island in the early morning before the sun rising behind me had fully illuminated the river.  This photo was shot using an 80-200 mm lens at a true focal length of 200 mm.

Another view of Crossover Island after the island was fully illuminated by the morning sun.  This photo was shot using a Nikon D3 with a 300 mm f/4 Nikkor lens with the sensor in the camera set to the DX mode to give an effective focal length of 600 mm.
