For a time, the Verrazano Narrows bridge was the longest suspension bridge ever built.  That record has been surpassed, but the mighty towers that support the bridge that crosses the entry to New York harbor are impressive nonetheless, especially when you sail beneath the bridge on a large cruise liner as we did leaving from New York City this past summer.
