The White Island or Isle of
Shoals light is distantly visible from the shore near the Portsmouth
Harbor lighthouse in New Castle, NH. The first lighthouse
was built of stone in 1821 and replaced by the present 58 foot
lighthouse with a 2nd order Fresnel lens in 1959. The current
optic is a modern beacon.
