The White Island or Isle of Shoals light is distantly visible from the shore near the Portsmouth Harbor lighthouse in New Castle, NH.  The first lighthouse was built of stone in 1821 and replaced by the present 58 foot lighthouse with a 2nd order Fresnel lens in 1959.  The current optic is a modern beacon.
