The Great Beds lighthouse is about 3/4 of a mile off of Staten Island's Wards Point and more or less straddles the New Jersey-New York boundary in Raritan Bay.   The construction of the lighthouse was completed and a light shone from the lantern room for the first time in 1880 after a boundary dispute between New Jersey and New York was settled.
