Massachusetts hasn't the most lighthouses but perhaps does have the most notable lighthouses and a remarkable lighthouse history.  The state has the oldest lighthouse in the United States in Boston Harbor (1716), which also happens to be the last manned lighthouse in the United States.  Cape Cod vies with Sussex County, New York and Door County, Wisconsin when it comes to high concentrations of lighthouses, with 15 still standing on Cape Cod.  Massachusetts is also home to the Flying Santa, a tradition begun in 1929 by a Maine pilot who began flying over lighthouses to drop Christmas gifts to keeper's families.
