14 Foot Shoal is a caisson-type lighthouse that was active from 1887 until the last Coast Guard crew was removed in 1973.  An electric cable, essentially a monster extension cord, stretches to the mainland to supply power with back-up diesel generators in case power from shore is interrupted.  The lighthouse is located at the lower end of Joe Flogger shoal and helps ships to navigate between the shoal on which it sits and Miah Maull shoal.
