Storm at Sunset

I've long wanted to photograph a storm at sunset. This sort of composition is challenging in that the metering system in the camera will nominaly "read" the brightest section of the scene in your viewfinder, leaving darker sections of the image under exposed. Alternately, if you take a light reading in a darker area of what will be your composition, the brighter regions will be correspondingly over exposed. To balance the exposure and make this image possible, a split neutral density filter was used in front of my lens to reduce the brightness of the sky by two stops to balance the exposure so that the beautiful colors of the sky are captured as well as the waves on the lake in the foreground.
