Pillar of Fire

This photograph of the South Haven lighthouse was taken in late January, 2002. The column of multicolor light just to the right of the lighthouse is a natural atmospheric phenomenon known as a sun pillar and is caused by light reflecting from flat plate-like ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. There was no computer enhancement of the colors in this image.
